Restoration of an 1833 three-bay, three story party-wall building in the CBD of New Orleans to continue to serve as the headquarters for Westfeldt Brothers Inc. Restorations included a full gut and revamp of the interior space of the building along with a new interior stair enclosure. Exterior work included restoration of the 1st story shop front be more redolent of mid-19th century New Orleans shop fronts. A new cantilevered balcony was added to the 2nd story based on indication that a balcony previously existed on Sanborn Maps. In addition, existing windows, brick, and granite accents were cleaned, repaired, and painted.
Multiple challenges were discovered during demolition and repaired during construction: old fire damage, termite damage, and structural issues. Code Appeals were needed to accomplish the ultimate occupancy goal, single stair configuration, separation design requirements between multiple occupancy and Historic Tax credits were employed to bring this building back to life.
